Significance
The general secretary of the ruling Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), Nguyen Phu Trong, is intensifying the country’s anti-corruption drive. The highest-ranking police official in the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) was sacked in August for allegedly aiding a fugitive spy. In June, the National Assembly passed a cybersecurity law aimed at controlling online activity.
