Subject
Mental health problems in Lebanon.
Significance
The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in 2014 launched the National Mental Health Programme (NMHP) to reform the mental health system and scale up services. In April 2017, it announced plans to cover mental health in all primary healthcare centres. However, the overall system is uncoordinated and overstretched.
Impacts
Without additional budget, primary health centres will not cover mental health expenses.
The mental health strategy may allow more training of medical personnel in primary healthcare centres.
Both financial constraints and the political atmosphere may limit provision for Syrian refugees, despite their great needs.
