Prospects for Mexico in 2019.
Significance
President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) will be sworn in for six-year term on December 1. Over the course of 2019 he and his National Regeneration Movement (Morena) will embark on what AMLO has called the “Fourth Transformation” -- a process he hopes will become a milestone in Mexico’s history, as transformative as independence from Spain, and the revolution of 1910 that produced the current political system. Whether AMLO will reform Mexico to the extent he hopes is questionable, but he looks sure to shake up the country’s politics.
