Significance

Dodik, who won the Serb seat on the tripartite BiH presidency in October, has strengthened his position as one of the region’s key politicians. He may use that position to impose on Muslims (Bosniaks) either the dismantling of the Dayton dispensation or the dismembering of BiH.

Impacts

The absence of any substantial US or EU presence will have unfortunate consequences for the whole region.

Dodik has publicly suggested a 'Greater Serbia' built on the ruins of Bosnia and incorporating parts of Montenegro.

Dodik’s growing power and close alliance with the Bosnian Croat leader will further weaken the Bosniak position.
