Significance
General elections will take place on October 27, following simultaneous open party primaries on August 11. The winner of the presidential contest will be sworn in on December 10. The elections come in an adverse economic climate undermining President Mauricio Macri’s hopes of re-election, although polarisation and voter disenchantment make the outcome uncertain.
