Subject
Prospects for African economies in 2020.
Significance
Persistent weaknesses in the global economy have once again contributed to a downward revision to the region’s growth forecast. GDP growth is now expected to reach 3.6% in 2020, slightly down from the 3.7% anticipated six months ago. However, this new forecast remains precarious given the current unpredictable global policy environment and lack of sufficient domestic wherewithal to engineer a faster recovery.
