Significance
It is now scheduled to run from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. The economic blow to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) coincides with other severe consequences of the pandemic, policy responses and oil market upheaval.
Impacts
If there are signs of major ongoing obstacles in 2021, the UAE may request a further delay.
Participating countries are likely to adjust and cut down their event programmes.
There will as yet be no move to delay the next World Expo in 2025 in Osaka or the planned 2023 Buenos Aires specialised Expo.
