Significance

Economic frustrations and political corruption are eroding tribal support for the ruling monarchy. Previously, tribes were considered the bedrock of Hashemite rule. Importantly, the tribes are not a unified opposition. Most members understand that there are 'red lines' which they cannot cross. Also, the coercive apparatus displays ironclad loyalty to the Hashemites.

Impacts

Despite their tribal roots, the security forces will stay loyal to the Hashemite family.

The government will lean even more heavily upon Western donors to maintain its solvency and governance structures.

Jordan will seek inroads into the Israeli-Palestinian issue to allay tribal fears that tribal identity could be subsumed.
