Prospects for the Russian economy to end-2022.

Significance

War in Ukraine has plunged Russia into a two-year recession. In May, the Ministry of Economic Development (MER) forecast that GDP will contract by 7.8%, although the previous month it was reportedly discussing a forecast of 10% or more. The causes of this recession show no signs of abating: a protracted and costly war in Ukraine and the ensuing Western sanctions.
