Significance
The result was especially significant as it ended four decades of Socialist Party (PSOE) electoral dominance in Andalusia. Moreover, the PP’s absolute majority means it will not need to cooperate with the far-right Vox party. The result follows PP victories in regional elections in Madrid, and Castile and Leon.
Impacts
Sanchez is unlikely to bring forward the elections to this year.
The results of the Madrid, Castile and Leon, and Andalusia elections suggest that Spain is moving politically to the right.
A right-wing government involving Vox would likely escalate tensions between Madrid and pro-independence forces in Catalonia.
