Significance
The FPDA is the only multilateral security pact that includes South-east Asian states and players from beyond the region. It is flexible, and able to address both conventional and non-conventional security threats.
Impacts
Non-members will not see the FPDA as a security threat.
The FPDA will help the United Kingdom strengthen its defence ties with the pact’s other members.
New Zealand will remain a minor player in South-east Asian security because its own military capabilities are limited.
