Significance
In three days of fighting, 44 Palestinians were killed, including two senior PIJ leaders. No Israelis died. Egypt then brokered a ceasefire.
Impacts
The latest violence has not triggered international calls for more diplomatic efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Fatah, and by extension the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, will have lost further support among Palestinians.
More violence in the West Bank and Israel will result in further bombardments of Gaza.
