Prospects for Pakistan in 2023.

Significance

Pakistan has faced major political, economic and security challenges, along with catastrophic floods, in 2022. Imran Khan, ousted as premier in a parliamentary no-confidence vote in April, is stridently taking on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government and the military-security establishment. The political tensions arising from this confrontation have become all-encompassing for Islamabad and distracted it from tackling a serious balance-of-payments crisis and an increase in militant attacks.
