Significance
Centre-left President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will take office on January 1 at the helm of a sprawling coalition that spans from the left to the centre-right. Keeping this alliance united will pose a significant challenge. In addition, the new government will face a delicate fiscal situation and strong opposition from far-right voters.
