Significance
The meeting was held in Birao, capital of the Central African Republic (CAR)’s north-eastern Vakaga Province. The meeting was apparently aimed at dismantling the training camps of armed groups on both sides of the border, notably those belonging to the new Coalition Siriri rebel group.
Impacts
Siriri's recruitment efforts could undermine the Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC), an alliance of rebel groups.
The RSF's targeting of Siriri and its backers could exacerbate power rivalries in Darfur.
Armed group attacks may lead to further population displacements in CAR's north-east and in neighbouring Darfur.
If the Wagner Group reduces its regional military presence due to the war in Ukraine, armed group offensives may push further into CAR.
