The ‘Correista’ (pro-Correa) Revolucion Ciudadana (Citizen Revolution, RC) won landmark victories in Quito and Guayaquil and is now the most powerful electoral force in Ecuadoran politics.
Impacts
Faith in Lasso’s ability to deliver on liberal economic reforms will be further dented by this week’s results.
The results will give Correista politics a platform on which to contest the presidency in 2025 and facilitate Correa’s return to Ecuador.
