Significance
The coalition reshuffle increases Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski’s majority in the 120-strong parliament from 64 to 65 MPs. That may ease the incorporation of a ‘Bulgarian community’ into the constitution later, clearing a hurdle in North Macedonia’s EU accession talks.
Impacts
ASh will broaden its political clientele as a result of appointments in ministries and public companies.
Though support for EU membership remains high, public opinion is divided on the issue of constitutional changes.
Kovachevski’s cabinet may serve a full term until the scheduled elections in mid-2024.
