Significance
Chisinau is pursuing an overhaul of critical cross-border infrastructure. Modernising railway and road networks could provide neighbouring Ukraine with another corridor to the EU, in addition to the existing links via Poland and the Black Sea.
Impacts
Infrastructure upgrades will facilitate the integration of Moldova and Ukraine into the EU.
EU funding will be essential for the modernisation and expansion of cross-border infrastructure, underway since the summer of 2022.
Ukraine’s exports to both Moldova and Romania will rise.
