Significance

The FATF sets international standards in anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT). Problematic jurisdictions can be placed on either a 'grey' or a 'black' watchlist, which can have severe negative implications for a country's ability to attract international investment and a company’s ability to do business there.

Impacts

FATF recommendations related to virtual assets will increase in the near term.

Indonesia will probably be the next country to become a member of the FATF.

The number of countries grey-listed will increase over the next few years.
