Significance
Intensified cooperation with NATO, including arms transfers and intelligence sharing, has led to a significant upgrade of Ukraine’s military capabilities and capacity to fight back against Russian aggression. Eventual membership may be part of a post-war settlement.
Impacts
The United States and Germany favour a slower approach to bringing Ukraine into NATO.
The NATO-Ukraine Council will coordinate joint security and defence initiatives.
The full-scale invasion of Ukraine has led NATO to increase its presence along its eastern flank, including the Baltic region.
NATO will pursue a balanced policy on China.
