The country’s renowned cyberespionage and surveillance capabilities were to some extent undermined by Hamas’s low-tech communications and misdirection. The conflict, so far, has involved some cyberattacks (including by non-state patriotic hackers), but Israel’s strength in this domain is proving less valuable against low-tech adversaries such as Hamas who rely on older forms of communication and less networked weaponry.
