Significance

Wilders has attempted to moderate his positions to attract potential coalition partners. He will need the support of the centre-right Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) and New Social Alliance (NSC) to form a government. VVD has said it will not enter government, but would be willing to offer Wilders parliamentary support.

Impacts

A government led by Wilders will object to Dutch military support for Ukraine, especially the delivery of F-16 fighter jets.

Wilders wants to abolish nitrogen emission restrictions and significantly curb spending on combatting climate change.

Wilders' victory could provide further momentum to the Alternative for Germany (AfD) and Austria’s Freedom Party in elections next year.
