Significance
Though its ambitions are more modest than those of its Gulf counterparts, Kuwait Airways faces a series of challenges, including at the boardroom level. External factors, such as troubles with aircraft procurement and the launch of a second Saudi flag carrier, also weigh on Kuwait Airways as it seeks to upgrade its fleet and expand its network.
Impacts
Although Kuwait does not plan to compete directly with hubs in Dubai and Doha, it will modernise its airport to build brand and capacity.
The country’s fractious politics will render it difficult to move forward quickly with diversification plans.
Kuwait will likely lag others in the region in attracting foreign investment, especially given fierce Saudi-Emirati competition.
