Significance
Hezbollah has been trading limited attacks with the Israeli military since October. However, Israel is warning that, without a negotiated deal to remove Hezbollah forces from its northern border, it will push the party back militarily. Hezbollah refuses to enter such negotiations while Israel’s war in Gaza continues.
Impacts
Open war would further harm Lebanon’s economy and destroy more of the country’s infrastructure, with little hope of rebuilding.
Syrian refugees in Lebanon will face further pressure to return to Syria, despite security and economic concerns.
In a full conflict, Hezbollah would use its precision arsenal to hit key economic targets inside Israel and in the Mediterranean.
