Significance

Yerevan has gradually distanced itself from Russia, culminating in the decision to suspend its participation in the security bloc. The CSTO decision follows a series of steps by the United States and its European allies to draw Armenia closer to them and support Yerevan’s efforts to diversify its foreign policy.

Impacts

Iran will continue supporting Armenia to balance Azerbaijan and its ally Turkey.

Yerevan is unlikely to withdraw from the CSTO.

A peace agreement with Azerbaijan will not be signed until Armenia makes amendments to its constitution.
