Significance
On October 6, it announced an intensification of checks on trains, buses and private vehicles coming from Sweden. Denmark, a member of the border-free Schengen travel area, is increasing checks at its borders following a rise in gang violence in Copenhagen attributed to perpetrators with a migrant background crossing from Sweden.
Impacts
Persistent crime is damaging Sweden’s reputation as a place to work and invest.
More Scandinavian countries will adopt a tougher stance on immigration given the surge in criminal violence.
