Significance
However, farmers have protested against low farmgate prices across Turkey in 2024, with some farmers dumping or not even harvesting their crops. Agricultural policy is in flux as output of cereals has declined this year, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), but output of fruit and vegetables has risen.
Impacts
Imports of staples like wheat, oilseeds, pulses and meat will still be permitted selectively and periodically, and could even increase.
Turkey will remain the world's leading exporter of hazelnuts and other dried fruit and nuts.
Food insecurity will remain relatively low, but the threat from climate change will persist and the poorest will face poor nutrition.
