Significance
The Pacific Fleet plays a vital role in Russia's maritime strategy but it relies on Soviet-era surface vessels and its Indo-Pacific capabilities are much weaker than those deployed by China, Japan and the United States.
Impacts
The Pacific Fleet will continue to rely on ageing Soviet-era vessels to fulfil maritime policy objectives.
An even older logistics support fleet will support combat vessels.
The Pacific Fleet will engage in closer military cooperation with China to counter the United States and its allies in the Pacific region.
