Significance
On December 9, Bangladesh and India held high-level talks in Dhaka. Bilateral relations have been strained since August, when Sheikh Hasina resigned as Bangladeshi prime minister under pressure from popular protests and fled to India.
Impacts
India will lose ground to China in the long-running competition between them for influence over Bangladesh.
Pakistan will try to improve its ties with Bangladesh, adding to India’s anxiety about the trajectory of regional geopolitics.
Mistrust of Bangladesh among Indian people and India among Bangladeshi people will increase because of acrimonious social media campaigns.
