Significance

It was Moscow’s principal response to Western sanctions imposed in 2014, after the annexation of Crimea, has delivered a sustained increase in agricultural production. By 2024, Russia was the world’s third-largest agrifood exporter and the world’s leading supplier of wheat. Agrifood is behind only oil and gas by export value.
