Voice evacuation systems such as Blick UK's Centaur are proven to evacuate buildings faster and more efficiently than conventional fire alarm bells. In a controlled experiment the evacuation time was reduced from over ten minutes to under 30 seconds using Centaur.
An intelligent fire detection and voice alarm system, Centaur has been designed for buildings that hold a large number of people or where the fire exits have limited capacity. It is particularly suitable for public places such as shopping malls, railway stations or stadiums. Using either pre-recorded messages or manual announcements to guide people to safety, Centaur can also be integrated with other Blick UK communication systems such as access control,radio paging, CCTV and DECT.
Access to the Centaur system can be via a DECT handset so announcements can be made on the move, even from the scene of the fire. This integration can save valuable minutes between a fire being found, an alarm being sounded and the prompt and safe evacuation of a building.
Martin Tweedie, product manager, said; "We have all become desensitised to conventional alarm bells, in the same way that we all ignore car alarms. Centaur will issue specific verbal instructions for the evacuation of a building. Nobody ignores these."
