Following the success of the autumn programme of training courses run by the Association for Passive Fire Protection (ASFP), further training days will take place during 2000. These incorporate details of the changes recently announced in the 2000 edition of Approved Document B, together with the duties of building owners and employers under the Fire Protection (Workplace) Regulations.
The courses are first designed to give a basic understanding of the use of all types of Passive Fire Protection (PFP) or, alternatively, to provide a more in-depth look at structural fire protection and compartmentation in buildings.
The "Understanding Passive Fire Protection" course (TC01) is of particular interest to designers and those who need to understand the principles and background to the subject. The courses on "Structural Fire Protection"(TC02) and "Compartmentation" (TC05) are designed for students wanting a more in-depth knowledge of these particular areas.
A special course on the "Inspection of PFP" (TC06) is run specifically for Building Control Officers and independent inspectors and can be organised according to demand.
All courses are normally run either in Brighouse in West Yorkshire, or at High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire as required.
The ASFP was formed in 1975 and currently represents more than 60 member companies, including all the major UK based passive fire protection product manufacturers and specialist installers. The Association operates a Code of Practice for its members and has also helped to establish the FIRAS Installers Accreditation Scheme for specialist contractors. This increasingly acknowledged FIRAS scheme ensures the correct installing of structural fire protection,penetration seals and fire barriers.
