AUTHOR GUIDELINES
Foundations and Trends® in Statistics publishes exclusively long (for example, 75+ pages) review and tutorial papers.
Aims and Scope
The growth in all aspects of research has led to a multitude of new publications and an exponential increase in published research. Finding a way through the excellent existing literature and keeping up to date has become a time-consuming problem. Researchers have instant access to more articles than ever before. But which articles are the essential ones that should be read to understand and keep abreast with developments of any topic? To address this problem Foundations and Trends® in Statistics publishes high-quality short articles that provide a starting point for a graduate student or researcher new to a particular topic. Each issue of Foundations and Trends® in Statistics comprises an article (75+ pages) written by research leaders in the field. We aim to publish articles that provide an in-depth, self-contained treatment of topics where there have been significant new developments. Typically, this means that the articles we publish will contain a significant level of mathematical detail (to describe the central methods and/or theory for the topic at hand), and will not eschew these details by simply pointing to existing references. Literature surveys and original research papers do not fall within these aims.
Foundations and Trends® in Statistics publishes research monographs on fundamental problems in statistics and its applications. We are interested in monographs that focus on statistical theory, methodology, and/or applications, as well as intersections of statistics with related fields including (but not limited to) machine learning, probability, and optimization.
Initial Submission
If you intend to write, or are in the process of writing, a paper that meets the criteria in editorial aims and scope, we will be pleased to hear from you. In the first instance, send an abstract and table of contents for initial review to the publisher. Also, clearly specify (in the body of the email or in a separate cover letter) your motivation for writing the monograph in question. In short, a successful monograph in Foundations and Trends® in Machine Learning is shaped by the tastes of the author(s). Explain how this will be carried out for the topic at hand.
After this initial submission, a preliminary acceptance may follow. The full draft paper will undergo a peer-review process to ensure quality standards and balance before being finally accepted.
AI Policy
Authors should disclose if and how AI tools were used when they created the submission, and this will be eventually published alongside the monograph if accepted. Authors are solely responsible for the entire content and correctness of the submission, regardless of how the text is produced (i.e., with the help of AI tools).
Manuscript Preparation
Once you have received preliminary acceptance, you can submit your full manuscript. Below are the manuscript preparation and submission instructions. To provide rapid publication, we ask our authors to create their articles in LaTeX. We encourage you to use our FnT LaTeX style files but we also accept manuscripts in general LaTeX format.
