Sir Leon Bagrit's Reith Lectures remind us that this is the age of automation, and it is certain that libraries will be affected—and affected profoundly—by developments in this direction. The whole matter has been given particular attention in America recently—in Automation and the Library of Congress, a survey study sponsored by the Council on Library Resources and published by the Library; in the latest Annual Report of the Librarian of Congress; and in the proceedings of the Conference on Libraries and Automation reviewed elsewhere in this issue.
