Purpose

This study conducts a bibliometric analysis to explore the literature corpus on organizational justice and organizational commitment from 1991 to 2024. The aim of this study is to map the intellectual structure and knowledge domain of this research field.

Design/methodology/approach

Using citation analysis, co-citation analysis and social network analysis (SNA) methodologies, a comprehensive examination of 304 scholarly articles containing 13,498 cited references was performed. The analysis used Biblioshiny in R-studio for year-wise publication segregation and descriptive statistics of documents accessed from the Web of Science database. Bibexcel was used for citation and co-citation analysis, UCINET for SNA and Pajek for presenting the intellectual structure of the studies. Exploratory factor analysis was then conducted to identify key factors encapsulating the intellectual landscape of organizational justice and organizational commitment research.

Findings

The analysis identifies six key factors. The factors reveal the foundational structure of the research on organizational justice and organizational commitment. The study highlights seminal works and examines scholarly interactions among publications, providing a thorough understanding of the field. The findings elucidate the connectivity within the research network on organizational justice and organizational commitment, and the future research agenda includes nine research questions for future researchers to conduct studies on the related variables.

Originality/value

While the contribution is incremental, the study adds originality by examining the unexplored linkage between organizational justice and organizational commitment. It contributes to the literature by offering a detailed bibliometric overview of organizational justice and organizational commitment research, identifying key factors and trends. The comprehensive analysis, which includes identifying key factors and trends, enhances understanding of the field’s evolution and scholarly interconnections, paving the way for future research directions.
