BPW Foundation celebrates 50 years of improving the lives of working women

Business and Professional Women's Foundation offers professional development

Business and Professional Women's Foundation recently hosted a professional development day at the 2006 BPW/USA National Conference in Dallas, Texas. This day of education is an activity of BPW Foundation's year-long 50th anniversary celebration, lighting the way: exploring our past, discovering our future.

The special workshop day began with Religion and Feminism, an opening plenary to discuss the need to debunk stereotypes and increase collaboration between women's organizations and religious groups, and closed with Recipes for your culinary briefcase, a hands-on cooking demonstration to teach busy women to cook healthy and delicious meals with limited time. The day culminated with the elegant 50th Anniversary Gala held at The Women's Museum. This celebratory event, featuring Author and Scientist Ellen Daniell, PhD, showcased the work of the first foundation dedicated to research and education on issues of workingwomen.

“We are excited to again create programming specifically for BPW/USA,”said Dr Sheila Barry-Oliver, Chair of the Board of Trustees for BPW Foundation:

This National Conference provides a targeted audience of women from varying industries at different points in their careers including retirement and “rehirement”who are a focus of our Employer Initiative partners.

Conference attendees selected from workshops such as 100 Days of the New Supreme Court, Finding Common Ground for Employers and Workingwomen and New Frontiers for 50 Plus: “Rehirement” not Retirement. Many workshop speakers are members of BPW Foundation Employer Initiative as well as prospective partners of BPW/USA and BPW Foundation.

“From the beginning, BPW Foundation has been cutting-edge in its vision,” said BPW Foundation's CEO Deborah Frett. “The Gala highlighted this work which continues to improve the lives of workingwomen and their families.”

For 50 years, BPW Foundation's efforts have made a tangible difference in the lives of American workingwomen and their families. BPW Foundation achieves its mission, to empower workingwomen to achieve their full potential and partner with employers to build successful workplaces, by creating resources and programming for workingwomen and employers, conducting targeted research, and providing scholarships for education and career advancement.
