Draws together two pieces of research by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development which looked at talent management and the role of training and employee development in improving the effectiveness of organizations, arguing that these show the learning and development activities that will make most difference to organizational performance. Lists the threats that training and employee development faces in a recession and also the opportunities. Advises trainers on how to identify the activities that they should focus on to ensure that their role remains relevant to the organization, describing the RAM framework that is used to ensure that learning and development activities are relevant, aligned and measured effectively. Lastly advises trainers to make sure that they ensure that their strategic and operational activities are in balance,and that they keep up-to-date with the latest development in the learning and development field.
