Underlines the contribution that good leadership has made to General Electric’s success and outlines the leadership development program that underpins this. Summarizes research from the Institute for Corporate Productivity, a non-profit think tank, of which General Electric is a member, which has surveyed organizations about the components of good leadership for over two decades. Reports that the research identified that there were significant difference in the ways that low-performing and high-performing approached leadership development, discussing what these were. Lists the top five elements of leadership identified in the research – the ability to communicate organizational goals; being an excellent decision maker; empowering employees;ensuring that programs support the desired culture; and adopting innovative processes to increase employee effectiveness. Discusses how organizations develop these elements within their leadership, indicating the training methods that were thought to be most successful. ISSN: 1092-8332 Reference: 39AN641
