Presents an excerpt from the book (The Rare Find: Spotting Exceptional Talent before Everyone Else) by the author, George Anders, which explains how innovative companies, such as Facebook and Google, that are trying to spot talent, are taking a different approach to reading candidates’ CVs, and sometimes ignoring them altogether. Focuses on the approach developed by Adam D’Angelo at Facebook, then a small Silicon Valley startup, where D’Angelo proposed that Facebook publish difficult programming challenges and invite engineers anywhere to solve them. Stresses that these are not the superficial brainteasers that some companies have traditionally used, but issue multi-hour tests of coding prowess on Facebook’s website. Points out that a theory emerged within the company that there are brilliant people that had not found their way to Silicon Valley, and might be languishing in ordinary tech jobs.ISSN: 0007-7136Reference: 41AA114
