Purpose – to look at demographic and workforce trends in the USA. Design/methodology/approach – cites survey evidence that 45 percent of US organizations do not capture knowledge and experience from employees nearing retirement or transfer it to newer workers, despite the fact that the “baby boomer” generation is starting to retire. Notes the smaller numbers and different work attitudes of the new generation entering the workforce and urges companies to consider how they will find and retain the right staff.
