Purpose – Points out that all organizations have jobs within them that are critical for the organization’s success. Discusses how to identify these jobs and to use the information to make sure that the jobs are filled with the most suitably talented people in the company. Describes how the company examines its staffing structure each year to identify the jobs that have most impact on the ability of the firm to meet its competitive goals in the coming year. Sets out how succession plans are developed for each of the critical jobs, how the objectives of the jobs are set, and how the individuals who work in these jobs are managed. Findings – Underlines the contribution that this approach to managing human resources makes to organizational performance.
