Purpose – summarizes research that has looked how human resource managers can develop incentives to motivate employees to support the organization’s efforts to make their practices and procedures greener. Design/methodology/approach – quotes the experience of organizations, such as Nottinghamshire County Council, BSkyB and Serco, and advice from academics and experts. Findings – underlines the need for senior managers to lead by example; for supervisors to encourage employees to recycle, etc., through praise and awards; and to involve employees in developing green initiatives. Also suggests that employee should be allowed to choose the charities and good causes supported by the organization as part of its corporate social responsibility programme.
