Describes how Alcatel-Lucent Belgium has worked with Flanders Business School to develop the Alcatel-Lucent Entrepreneurial Boot Camp to help innovators to develop their ideas into viable business plans. Explains how the Boot Camp results in one business plan being judged to be most likely to succeed and taken up by the company; the developers of the other ideas being given feedback and encouragement to continue innovating. Contrasts this approach with the one adopted by Pfizer which focuses on developing a culture for innovation that permeates the company. Describes the development of the online “Idea Site”on which a couple of questions are posted and discussed, creating a range of insights that are given further analysis. Lastly describes how Whirlpool has developed a competency-based innovation system and includes goals in employees’performance metrics that are related to innovation.
