Argues that learning and development professionals need to focus on the area in which they can add most value to the organization, namely helping employees to learn, unlearn, adapt and change. However, contends that the nature of organizational change has changed and identifies eight new “rules” of change – for example, change is internal not external; slowing the pace of change can be appropriate depending on how complex and subtle the issues, which are being dealt with, are; no-one can make you change; and sometimes it is reasonable to resist change.
