Reports an edited summary of an interview with Robert McDonald, CEO at Procter & Gamble (P&G), where McKinsey’s Michael Chui and Thomas Fleming discussed with him the nature and progress of the company’s digitization initiative, and its implications for P&G’s people and culture. Explains that the aim is to apply digital technology to the achievement of a one-on-one relationship with every consumer worldwide since the more intimate the relationship, the more indispensable it becomes. Reviews the company’s efforts in the areas of: data modelling, simulation, and other digital tools for reshaping how the company innovates; improving data at the source; and the creation of a digital workforce.
