North Korea to encourage IT and computer use
The North Korean Government, not hitherto known for its computer technology, has raised the number of information-technology (IT) subjects to be taught at universities and colleges and intends to reach "advanced teaching methods"at the institutions.
So-called "competent teachers" have been selected and sent to various institutions, and "intelligent students" have been chosen, who are to study IT at universities and "talent centres". The goal is the quick development of IT in North Korea.
Some 20 out of 52 papers written by graduates of the Hamhung University of Chemical Engineering, were on IT themes. North Korea sees this as proof of "great performances in places of higher education in the development of IT".
There are currently no official or private Web sites in North Korea. The Korean Central News Agency of DPRK (KCNA) operates from Japan, and the first North Korean Web shop is located in London.
