Kineo has been awarded an Articulate Guru award for the e-learning it created and delivered with fast-food giant McDonald’s UK.

Managing restaurants profitably involves balancing staff costs, material costs, sales, quality and customer service. Kineo was commissioned to use the Articulate e-learning tool to design and develop an engaging e-learning course to promote and develop these skills in a new generation of McDonald’s UK staff.

Kineo developed the initial prototype based on content and scripts developed by the McDonald’s team. As the project moved into full production, members of the McDonald’s team worked side by side with the Kineo team, getting trained on the Articulate skin and templates, and giving feedback on the content.

The key McDonald’s UK requirements for the platform were to be able to include complex interactions, to develop an approach that met the specific brand requirements and to deliver a rich range of interactions. The platform used an Articulate skin developed for Kineo to allow McDonald’s UK control over the branding and positioning of elements such as the logo.

The e-learning project saved McDonald’s more than £1 million in delivery costs and resulted in significantly improved performance.

Steve Rayson, Kineo managing director, said:

We are proud of our work and long-term relationship with McDonald’s. We are focused on delivering business results with e-learning and the benefits in this case are significant. It is great to get external recognition from Articulate in its annual awards.

Meanwhile, an e-learning partnership between Kineo and telecommunications company O2 has created a rapid design and delivery model to address critical business deadlines and deliver quality at speed.

O2 recognized in 2008 that traditional means of delivering e-learning were taking too long and costing too much. The company appointed Kineo to partner it to change the approach. The partnership has led to a model that:

  • delivers at speed to the business, often in fewer than five working days;

  • breaks down traditional client/vendor barriers, with O2 and Kineo sharing tasks and working side-by-side on projects to get the best from both teams; and

  • used Articulate to deliver results that can be easily updated by the O2 team.

Kelly Lockwood, of O2, said:

This rapid approach has improved the effectiveness of our training offering to the business. Our courses are now more succinct and polished as we have been able to move the content forward using things like Flash animations. I believe this has contributed to the success of our partnership and our ability to deliver courses to a high standard to our business, often with short timescales.

Stephen Walsh, Kineo director, said:

Businesses don’t come more fast-moving than O2. Our partnership is a great example of how intelligent use of rapid e-learning tools and a flexible approach can deliver real value at speed in a fast-changing organization.
