Results-assessment specialist Ceres Management has launched a new tool to evaluate training and development initiatives.

The tool was refined for learning and development specialists following a workshop involving training, talent and HR consultants from the private and public sectors. Facilitated by Dr John O’Connor, of Ceres Management, and Russell McCann, of leadership-development specialist Bright Beyond, the participants explored ways to improve training and development evaluation.

According to John O’Connor, there was agreement across the group that,to be effective, an evaluation model must:

  • define what business success looks like;

  • align evaluation goals with business need;

  • focus the evaluation around clear performance needs;

  • define success indicators, especially for behavioral outcomes; and

  • be easy to apply and administer.

John O’Connor then introduced a new results-assessment tool and took the group on an interactive “test-drive” to show its detailed workings. Participants were particularly impressed with its business focus.

John O’Connor commented: “The tool has been specifically designed to link engagement to measuring value and provide practical ways to move beyond level 1 measurement.”

The results-assessment tool requires that measurement be situated at the forefront of every organizational-development and training initiative. The model takes clients and stakeholders through an initial alignment exercise, which sets the road-map for the remaining evaluation activities.

Ceres Management focuses on improving how to measure the impact of people-development initiatives. It aims to enable clients to use the evidence of business results to make sound decisions about ongoing investments in people development.
