One of the major problems on a DMS course stems from the nature of the intake, particularly in an industrial area like Teesside. Many managers, especially those with an engineering or scientific background, are put at an immediate disadvantage in terms of framing essay type answers for examinations, compared to students with, say, social studies degrees. Also the students with social studies degrees tend empirically to be younger, more flexible, and more used to the examination system.
