Bridging the gap

The Army recognises two types of soldier, the combatant ‘teeth arm’ soldier and the ‘services’ supporting him. Regardless of the interdependence of the two groups, precedence is given to the combatant since in the final analysis it is he who projects the right missile at the right time on to the right target to win the battle. Knowing this, he is given a recognisable sense of purpose which he willingly responds to. Similarly, in an economy, the wealth creating sector, in all logic should take precedence. This does not appear to be the case in Britain. If it were, then more young people would willingly enter commerce and industry as a career. They would recognise the value of their calling, at whatever level, and would commit themselves to continue the process of successfully developing the enterprises they joined. In turn, they would be fully supported and esteemed by the rest of the community.
